The cake in the photo is called Banh Ech, which I write following its name in the Khmer language.
I don’t know its origin, but there is a fancy saying that food in Cambodia that starts with Banh is coming from Vietnam; hence, it might be a Vietnamese cake.
You see there are two colors; they are the same; just the green one is mixed with pandan.
Inside is steamed yellow bean, which is less sweet. You can eat it, or you can add the sauce.
The sauce is made of coconut milk. It has garlic leaves, and it is less sweet.
If you eat the cake, you will taste its deliciousness but waterless. If you put the sauce on it, your tongue will feel easy to chew and swallow it due to the oil of the coconut milk.
Because it is less sweet, people with high blood sugar can eat it, but they should not eat more than two pieces; in addition, the sauce is made of coconut milk, so there is still a risk, especially for the patient.
Don’t forget to drink water after eating it.

Thanks for reading.
Oh, I forgot to tell you that this cake my family bought from Central Market. You may find it at other markets, but it is easy to find the most in the Central Market in Phnom Penh.
